faintly.

Then his expression changed.

“Do you think Samuel betrayed Grandma?”

“I don’t know.”

“You used to guess.”

“I’m tired of guessing.”

That was true.

We had spent days interpreting more than action.

Samuel took evidence.

That was enough to investigate.

The abandoned rail station sat beyond an industrial district.

Police arrived first.

No Samuel.

But his car was parked behind the building.

Inside, officers found blood.

Not much.

A smear on a bench.

A broken phone.

And a note addressed to Grandma.

Margaret,

I found what Thomas Walker hid.

Arthur cannot have it.

Richard cannot have it.

Neither can the government until you understand what it means.

I was wrong about one thing from the beginning.

The trust was never meant to belong to Michael.

Grandma read the note twice.

Michael stared at her.

“What does that mean?”

She shook her head.

“I don’t know.”

Ruiz’s team searched the station.

They found another security camera on a neighboring warehouse.

The footage showed Samuel arriving alone.

Twenty minutes later another vehicle pulled up.

A woman stepped out.

Samuel handed her the document case.

They argued.

Then she struck him.

Samuel fell.

The woman took the case.

Drove away.

Ruiz enlarged the image.

Nobody recognized her.

Until Mom joined the video call.

She stared.

Her face went completely still.

“Anna?” Michael said.

Mom whispered:

“That’s Rachel.”

Thomas looked up.

“Who?”

Mom looked toward
