stretcher.

Richard was taken separately.

Keller was restrained.

Chloe walked out under her own power.

For the first time since Julian made my tea, nobody was running.

An hour later, a doctor confirmed the bullet had passed through soft tissue without striking a major organ.

Julian would live.

Richard would too.

So would Keller.

That mattered.

Dead men had caused enough damage.

Now they would have to speak.

Liam called from protection after learning Chloe was safe.

He cried openly when she appeared on-screen from the hospital.

Marianne requested counsel and offered to surrender the original medication records.

Margaret began negotiating her own cooperation.

Everyone suddenly wanted to tell the truth.

Not because truth had become morally attractive.

Because secrecy had stopped being profitable.

I stood alone beside the window of the secure office as dawn began to lighten Zurich.

My phone vibrated.

A message from Julian.

You saved all of us.

I stared at it.

Then typed:

No.

I deleted that.

Tried again.

Finally I wrote:

The evidence did.

Three dots appeared.

Then:

Fair.

Another message followed.

What happens to us?

I looked out at the pale city.

Two days earlier, I might have answered from anger.

A day earlier, perhaps from fear.

Now the question felt simpler.

I typed:

That is not a decision we make tonight.

Julian replied:

Okay.

No argument.

No persuasion.

No attempt to control the timing.

Just okay.

It was the smallest honest thing he had given me.

And for now, it was enough.

Click here to continue reading: PART 18: When Every Secret Finally Reached the
