exceeded ninety thousand dollars at any one time.

Money moved through rapidly.

Bell Advisory deposited.

Robert authorized transfers.

Recipient entities changed.

Some went to Prescott Ventures.

Some to investment accounts.

Some to Greaves-related escrow.

One went to Patricia.

None came to me.

The account was not compensation.

It was transit.

“What purpose did using C.M. serve?” I asked.

Omar thought.

“Appearance.”

“Of what?”

“That money associated with Bell Advisory had been reserved for Claire.”

Greaves had said that could be used against me.

A false compensation trail.

Maybe Andrew wanted evidence that I had secretly benefited from side transactions.

If challenged, he could point to years of “Morgan compensation.”

Even if I never received the funds, the account could muddy the story.

Nina asked Robert, “Did Andrew ever tell you how these statements should be ever asked about distributions.”

I stared.

“So if I asked where money went, you had statements suggesting some was mine.”

Robert’s face fell.

“I didn’t think of it that way.”

Andrew had.

That was the point.

“Did you ever show Daniel?”

“No.”

“Patricia?”

“Once.”

“What did she say?”

“She thought it was strange.”

“Did she ask Andrew?”

“Yes.”

“When?”

“About six years ago.”

“What did he say?”

“That Claire knew.”

Another lie.

Repeated enough that everyone stopped checking.

Nina asked, “Did Patricia receive money from this account?”

Robert nodded.

“Forty thousand.”

One of the payments we previously traced to Bell-related entities.

Now we had the route.

My fake compensation reserve funded Daniel’s mother.

The audacity was almost elegant.

Money labeled for me went to the family that later called me a freeloader.

“What else?”

Robert hesitated.

“There was one transfer I refused.”

“When?”

“Three years ago.”

“How much?”

“Two hundred fifty thousand.”

“To whom?”

“Martin Greaves.”

“Why refuse?”

“It felt too large.”

Finally, a boundary.

“What did Andrew say?”

“That it was legal fees.”

“What did you do?”

“Told him to invoice Daniel directly.”

“Then?”

“He got angry.”

“Did the transfer happen another way?”

Omar searched.

Yes.

Bell Advisory paid Greaves directly three days later.

The custodial account had been optional infrastructure.

Useful when convenient.

Not essential.

“Why keep the account open after that?”

Robert looked ashamed.

“I forgot about it.”

I believed him.

That almost made it worse.

Andrew created structures people stopped noticing.

Dormant enough to feel harmless.

Available enough to become useful when needed.

Then Omar found a pattern.

Every major deposit into the C.M. reserve occurred near a corporate event.

Hawthorne diligence.

Prescott Ventures transactions.

Bell Legacy option creation.

Large Daniel investment.

Northstar preparation.

The account was being funded strategically.

Not randomly.

“What was the purpose around Northstar?” I asked.

Omar traced the most recent deposits.

One hundred eighty thousand dollars entered over four months.

Then Andrew prepared a schedule showing “historical Morgan advisory compensation.”

My stomach tightened.

There.

He had planned to use it.

“In what context?”

Attached to Northstar diligence.

The buyer had received a disclosure stating that I historically received compensation through family custodial arrangements.

False.

North Harbor thought I had been paid.

Rebecca confirmed by phone.

“We were told Claire had separate economic participation beyond shares.”

I closed my eyes.

That explained why some people accepted the story that I would receive nothing directly in the sale distribution schedule.

They believed I had other pools.

Daniel had told Melissa I was protected separately.

North Harbor had seen supposed compensation history.

Patricia believed I had already benefited.

Andrew built different evidence for different audiences pointing toward the same fiction.

Claire already has money elsewhere.

Therefore taking this does not really harm her.

That story made greed feel fair.

“What amounts did North Harbor think I had received?”

Rebecca checked.

“Approximately three point two million historically.”

I stared.

“Three point two?”

“Yes.”

“Based on what?”

“Schedules from Bell Advisory.”

Omar requested them.

The schedule included deposits to the C.M. reserve.

Trust investment growth that belonged to me anyway.

Company distributions I legitimately received.

And fabricated advisory fees.

Andrew combined real money with false money.

The total looked plausible.

The best deception yet.

Not invent a fortune from nothing.

Mix legitimate wealth with fake compensation until nobody knows which is which.

Nina asked Rebecca, “Did North Harbor use that figure when evaluating Claire’s likely willingness to accept eight million?”

A pause.

“Yes.”

My stomach turned.

They thought eight million was on top of three million in secret compensation.

Still undervalued.

But less obviously abusive.

Andrew had engineered moral cover for outside investors too.

“Did Daniel know North Harbor had this schedule?”

Rebecca did not know.

We asked him.

Daniel came in after lunch.

He stared at the C.M. reserve statements.

“I have never seen these.”

“Did Andrew tell you I had received secret compensation?”

“Yes.”

My eyes narrowed.

“When?”

“During settlement planning.”

“How much?”

“He said a few million over the years.”

“And you believed him?”

“I thought it was trust distributions.”

“Did you verify?”

“No.”

The answer no longer surprised me.

“That helped you justify eight million.”

Daniel looked down.

“Yes.”

There it was.

Another moral escape hatch.

Andrew told Daniel I had already received plenty.

Daniel wanted to believe it.

So he did.

“Did you tell Melissa?”

“Yes.”

“Your mother?”

“I think so.”

“The lawyers?”

“Yes.”

The false account had spread through Daniel’s mouth.

Andrew only needed to create the seed.

Daniel distributed it.

“Why didn’t you ask me?”

Daniel looked at me.

“Because if you said no, I’d have to change what I was doing.”

That was one of the most honest things he had ever said.

I nodded.

“Yes.”

He continued.

“I know how that sounds.”

“It sounds accurate.”

Omar asked Daniel about D. Prescott Trust Services.

Daniel frowned.

“Never heard of it.”

“Your name is implied.”

“Not my entity.”

“Could Andrew have created it?”

“Yes.”

“Using your information?”

“Probably.”

We obtained formation records.

The organizer was a nominee service.

The beneficial declaration, however, had a scanned signature.

Daniel’s.

He looked at it.

“Not mine.”

Omar compared.

Same extracted signature source used on another old document.

Daniel had been forged years earlier too.

Not just recently.

The date was eight years ago.

Andrew had been manufacturing paper around Daniel almost as long as around me.

“Did you know?”

“No.”

Daniel looked genuinely shaken.

“He could have used this for anything.”

“Yes.”

“Loans?”

“Potentially.”

“Tax issues?”

“Potentially.”

Crane immediately requested a full entity search.

We found three more obscure companies tied to variants of Daniel’s name.

One had never traded.

One held a small investment.

The third had received payments from Bell Advisory.

Daniel knew none of them.

Or claimed not to.

This time, evidence supported him.

Andrew had not simply influenced Daniel.

He had built backup versions of Daniel on paper.

Entities.

Signatures.

Authorizations.

If Daniel cooperated, useful.

If not, perhaps still useful.

I thought of the phrase Greaves quoted.

Always give Daniel one thing he can refuse.

Andrew never relied on only one path.

“What about me?” I asked.

Omar searched entity records using my full name, maiden name, initials, trust references.

Three entities surfaced.

One legitimate.

Two unfamiliar.

Morgan Advisory Reserve LLC.

CM Strategic Holdings.

My stomach tightened.

Formation dates?

Six years ago.

Four years ago.

Both connected through nominee services to Bell Advisory.

“Any activity?”

Yes.

Money moved through both.

Not millions.

Hundreds of thousands.

No direct benefit to me.

But documentation made them look mine.

Andrew had built a financial shadow.

A false Claire.

A false Daniel.

Paper versions of both of us he could use when the real people became inconvenient.

Nina looked furious.

“That could support identity misuse, fraud, tax issues, multiple theories.”

Crane said, “Daniel will cooperate fully.”

For once, nobody argued.

Then Robert spoke.

He had been quiet for almost twenty minutes.

“There’s something I need to tell you.”

I turned.

“What?”

“The C.M. initials.”

“What about them?”

“Andrew told me they meant Claire quickened.

“What?”

“I saw it when we opened the account.”

“What did C.M. stand for?”

He rubbed his forehead.

“I forgot later repurposed the initials to make the account appear mine.

The original purpose had been broader.

“What was Control Management?” Nina asked.

Robert thought.

“Some kind of strategy reserve.”

“For whom?”

“Andrew said it funded work that couldn’t appear directly on Prescott of the account.

Behavioral consultants.

Greaves.

Investor due diligence.

A private investigator.

I stared.

“Private
